Aims and objectives

We aim to be the North East regional focus for teaching/training, information, research and consultancy in engineering for a sustainable future.

Our objectives are to:

  • promote Newcastle as a green campus which aims for sustainability in all aspects of its operations
  • carry out applied and fundamental research in sustainable engineering and manufacturing
  • offer consultancy facilities
  • publish reports, advice, newsletters
  • offer teaching, training and awareness raising to a range of audiences in education, industry, business and the community.
  • offer support to all our colleagues and students across Newcastle University in raising their awareness of sustainability and of the University's sustainability policy
  • network with colleagues in other HE institutions, FE colleges, schools, industry, business and the community in the North East region

To achieve these objectives, we are able to use a number of mechanisms including:

  • Teaching Company schemes
  • Eng Doc programmes
  • PhD/MPhil research projects
  • Taught Masters courses
  • Participation in undergraduate programmes
  • Industrial placements of MSc students
  • Distance learning modules
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for industry and business, and 'outreach' to schools and the community
  • Industrv/NGO/Research Council funding for R&D activities
  • Dissemination of information
