Research in sustainable engineering & development, sustainability, and environment is carried out in many locations in the University. Those centres focussing specifically on researching these issues include:
The Engineering Design Centre
The EDC Sustainability Research Group investigates the impact of sustainability on the design process for complex systems. It focuses on Engineered-to-order products such as offshore oil & gas, nuclear systems, land based chemical and power plant, ships, and military aircraft.
Large engineering projects
The Institute for Research on Environment & Sustainability
IRES is a multidisciplinary research Institute, recently established to foster and promote the University's internationally recognized expertise in environmental and sustainability research.
The Institute will enable scientists, engineers and social scientists to deliver holistic, cutting edge research on the impact of human habitation of the planet and to provide social and technological solutions for mitigating these impacts.
Highlight for April 2008
Strategic planning for sustainability requires complex systems to be modelled.
Because of this complexity, it is unrealistic to develop new and comprehensive models for each of the numerous possible situations likely to be encountered. Many models already exist ...
About the Events Diary
The EDC often hosts, arranges or is associated with a wide variety of seminars related to its activities.
These seminars (often in association with an engineering institute) are always open to students and staff at the university and often to the public.
Upcoming events will be listed on this website in the future. Please check back from time to time for updates.
