Sustainable development

For Newcastle City Council to stay in the forefront of sustainable development, the planning framework needs to be updated and more emphasis is required on sustainability. The Local Development Framework will have to be aligned with the best practice available and with regional, national and EU Policy.

Balanced planning

However changing the planning rules is a balancing act between the objectives of regeneration, job creation and sustainability which do not always go hand in hand. The Building Schools for the Future might provide an excellent feedback on how well the planning framework is performing in terms of sustainability.

It is therefore a particular objective of the project team to influence how sustainability is built into the Local Development Framework and provide assistance and research to improve it.
